About Space Weather Week
At the May 2001 Space Weather Week, the large events of the year served as the basis for user talks that detailed the effects of various space weather phenomena. These storm events provided a unique opportunity to test new ideas and models by utilizing an unprecedented number of multi-point observations and knowledge gained about storms since the previous solar cycle.
Space Weather Week 2002 will continue in this vein, to describe the many user effects that resulted from high activity to discuss relevant research in many areas of the environment, and to present recent and upcoming service enhancements.
The conference program will center around user effects in several areas of the environment, and the research that is related to that environment. Discussions among researchers, users, and SEC will be open and plentiful. There will be three poser sessions. Speakers from the national programs in space weather will review the research they are funding.
The topics (and related environments) are as follows:
- GPS Effects (Trans-Ionospheric)
- Electric Power Effects (Induced Currents)
- HF Communications Effects (Reflective Ionospheric)
- Satellite Effects (Radiation, Magnetopause)
- Radiation Effects on Humans (Solar Protons and Radiation Belts)
Limited funding will be available to support student participation. Contact Terry Onsager (303-497-5713) for more information.
The conference will be held in Boulder at the Department of Commerce Building, 325 Broadway, adjacent to SEC offices, on April 16-19.
There will be three poster sessions, which are scheduled at 12:00 - 2:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A catered lunch will be provided on all of these days. The posters sessions will be organized by topic area, with posters on solar and interplanetary topics scheduled on Tuesday, ionosphere and thermosphere posters scheduled on Wednesday, and magnetosphere posters on Thursday. The available area for poster material is 4 feet by 4 feet.
Poster and video abstracts may be submitted either when you register (by following the links on the registration page), or after registering by selecting the poster and video submission link above, and then selecting 'Details' next to your name on the list of registered participants.
If you need more information on the posters and demonstrations, please contact Terry Onsager (Terry.Onsager@noaa.gov).
