Current Space Weather Conditions
R1 (Minor) Radio Blackout Impacts
close
HF Radio: Weak or minor degradation of HF radio communication on sunlit side, occasional loss of radio contact.
Navigation: Low-frequency navigation signals degraded for brief intervals.

HF Communications - WMO Product Portal

Global D-Region Absorbtion

Thumbnail of D-Region Absorption product
Product Description:
2-D product showing current location and intensity of expected
degradation of High Frequency radio communication. Information
is provided for all latitudes and within specific frequency bands.
At low latitudes, the radio communication degradation is due to
solar x-rays. At high latitudes, the degradation is due to solar
energetic particles. Product gives current communication
disturbance levels and expected duration.

Target Users:
Product users include industries that rely on HF Communication,
such as: emergency managers, aviation, and maritime
communication.
Global D-Region Absorbtion
Cadence: 1-min
Data Source: GOES X-ray and GOES Proton measurements

Three-day X-Ray Forecast

Xray plot thumbnail
Product Description:
Daily probabilities of X-class and M-class
flares over the next one, two, and three days.

Target Users:
Product users include industries that rely on HF Communication,
such as: emergency managers, aviation, and maritime
communication. For current HF Communication conditions,
see the Global D-Region Absorption product
Three-day X-Ray Forecast
Cadence: Daily
Data Source: Solar images and GOES X-Rays

Three-day Proton Forecast

Proton plot thumbnail
Product Description:
Daily probabilities of solar proton events over the next one, two,
and three days. A solar proton event is defined by the >10 MeV
proton flux exceeding 10 particles/(cm2 s sr) at geostationary orbit.

Target Users:
Product users include industries that rely on HF Communication,
particularly at high latitudes, the satellite industry and activities
sensitive to energetic particle radiation at high altitudes and in space.
For current HF Communication conditions, see the Global D-Region
Absorption product.
Three-day Proton Event Forecast
Cadence: Daily
Data Source: Solar Images, GOES X-Ray and Proton measurements

Current X-Ray and Proton Alerts

Alerts thumbnail
Product Description:
Timeline of currently active and recent X-Ray and energetic proton alerts.
Alerts are issued when observed X-Ray and proton flux levels at
geostationary orbit exceed predetermined thresholds.

Target Users:
Product users include industries that rely on HF Communication,
the satellite industry and activities sensitive to energetic particle
radiation at high altitudes and in space. For current HF Communication
conditions, see the Global D-Region Absorption product.
Current X-Ray and Proton Alerts
Cadence: As Issued
Data Source: GOES X-Ray and Proton measurements
